The Northwestern High School Senior Jazz Ensemble has been invited to perform at the 7th Annual North Texas Jazz Festival in Addison, Texas. The The North Texas Jazz Festival in Addison is a collaboration between the University of North Texas Jazz Studies Division and the Town of Addison and includes performances by top UNT ensembles, major jazz headliners, and outstanding school groups from across the United States. The North Texas Jazz Festival is an invitational festival, and middle school, high school, community college and university groups submit an application and recording for consideration to participate each year. The top group entries in the big band, combo, and vocal jazz categories are invited for the weekend. The Northwestern jazz band is one of only 12 high school ensembles from across the country selected in the big band category. Ensembles perform three selections and are adjudicated by top names in jazz education, receive a clinic from a UNT jazz faculty member, and attend master classes presented by UNT jazz faculty. The UNT Jazz Studies program was the first university jazz degree program in 1947 and the graduates of the program have become some of the foremost jazz performing artists and educators in the world. The festival will be held March 29th through the 31st.
